COVID-19 PATIENT CHECK PROTOCOL
Thank you for your interest in local wildlife and our work. Center for Wildlife receives no state or federal funding, and the ongoing pandemic has strained our staffing and resources like never before. We usually like to offer patient checkups as a courtesy to rescuers, and to foster a deeper understanding of the wildlife around us. However, due to Covid, all of our clinic resources are focused on caring for the up to 200 new injured and orphaned wild animals we can receive in a week.
Please see the instructions below for our updated procedure on patient check inquiries and the supporting fee.
"Why can’t I just call?"
In addition to keeping our Hotline open for emergency calls, patient checks require researching disposition, examination notes, weight, behavior, and current status or reason for decease or humane euthanasia We take pride in offering this information in the comprehensive way that a rescuer expects, and as a result this process can take 20-30 minutes per patient
If each rescuer called to check on their patient even just once per week, this would require an additional 40-hour per week position
As many non-profits and businesses face layoffs and temporary or permanent closures, all of the decisions we’ve made and continue to make during Covid are aimed at remaining open and ready to treat the thousands of wildlife in need brought through our doors each year
