Center for Wildlife
Wheels for Wildlife Program

Donate your new or used vehicle and the money from the sale will go directly toward our work with local wildlife- just in time for tax season!

We were recently inspired by a local family that found a unique way to donate to Center for Wildlife. Here's their story:

car owners

"While attending the most recent open house at the Center for Wildlife we were thinking of ways ourfamily could help out the center. At the time we were in the process of buying a new car and the dealer was not offering us very much money for our trade-in. Our car had many miles on it, but was very reliable and always kept in good working order. It was then that we thought that the center could either use our car to replace their current vehicle or perhaps sell it to raise money....While dropping the car off at the garage we mentioned our plan to donate it to help out the CFW. Bill immediately offered to buy the car allowing us to make a larger cash donation to the Center For Wildlife."

Wheels for Wildlife Program

With the Dawe family's inspiration, we have created our new program, where you can donate your vehicle and the money from the sale will go directly to our work!  A vehicle donation can be a great way to get a deduction on your taxes. Thanks to a tax law that went into effect in January 2005, the IRS has simplified the process by taking the guesswork out of determining the value of your vehicle.

wheels for wildlife check presentationAs of January 2005, you may deduct the full price we receive for the sale of your vehicle or if you sell your vehicle and donate the proceeds to Center for Wildlife. This greatly simplifies the process for you, the donor, because you no longer have to research and come up with an estimate of the fair market value of the vehicle.

How does it work?

The IRS allows you, the taxpayer, to claim a tax deduction of

  • a) The value of your vehicle up to $500 or
  • b) If we sell the vehicle for more than $500, we will mail you a notification stating the exact amount for which it sold, which is the value you state for your tax purposes
  • c) Fair market value in some cases for certain vehicles. For example, late model cars or vans that end up being used to further the work of our charity OR vehicles on which we make a significant material improvement such as a major repair, before selling it. (see "How The Amount Of Your Vehicle Donation is Determined")

We'll work together on your donation!wfw logo

You will receive a receipt at the time that your vehicle is picked up / or you deliver it to the Center for Wildlife. Assuming that we sell your vehicle for more than $500, we will then mail you a notification stating that value for your tax purposes. So for any vehicle sold for more than $500, the exact amount it is sold for will be stated on your notification mailed to you, which in turn will be your tax deduction.
